The Story About Steve Terry

October 3, 1951

I was born. This was the Korean War era, and the Civil Rights Movement was on it's way. While Kruschev threatened to "bury" the free world, Rock and Roll was born. The British Invasion would rock the 60's and change music forever.

June 1969

I graduated from South Kitsap High School in Port Orchard, Washington. I was not a stellar student. I barely made it into the top third of my class. Soon, I was in the Army and off to Vietnam where I was a medic assigned to the 24th Evacuation Hospital and the 9th Mobile Med Lab.

Thru August 1975

I was stationed at Fort Lewis, WA; Fort Bliss, TX; and Fort Wainwright, AK. I eventually earned paratrooper wings in Alaska. I met my first wife Shirley in Fairbanks, where we were married one cold New Year's Eve. (It had warmed up to 30 below.)

1975-1979

I attended Walla Walla College where I did somewhat better than in high school. I received a Bachelor of Arts degree with a double major in Theology and Biblical Languages. In my senior year, our son Seth was born, and I became the pastor of a three church district in Kansas.

1980

Shirley was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in early 1980. I left the pastoral ministry that year in the hopes that a climate with less humidity would help her. After a period of struggle to find steady employment, I eventually ended up working for the State of Washington Department of Social and Health Services. I was with the State for almost 20 years before retiring at the end of September 2007. Unfortunately, Shirley's condition continued to slowly worsen over the years, and she passed away March 18, 2005.

2007

I remarried in June of 2006 but for Biblical reasons which were beyond my control, that marriage ended after only a year and I became single again on October 3, 2007.  I learned much from this short marriage and am using that knowledge to minister to others who are dealing with the traumas surrounding divorce.  As Joseph said in Genesis 50:20, what was meant for evil, God turned into good.  Currently I am seeking to develop avenues for inner-city ministry. Please pray for me that I will continue to walk in God’s will and be of service to Him in ministry to others.
